David and Victoria Beckham have come under fire from fans for appearing to allow their 12-year-old son to lift weights at the gym.

Cruz posted a video to his Instagram account documenting his efforts at a weight training session.

The youngster can be seen in gym wear as he lies on his back and attempts to lift a bar four times before giving up.

He captioned the shot with a muscly arm emoji and tagged his older brother Brooklyn, who frequently updates fans with gym videos.

But fans feared for Cruz’s health, insisting he is “too young” to start weight training.

One user commented: “Unless you are at least fifteen, with a qualified Personal Trainer, this is not a thing to do, as your body is still growing. In fact I would say it is not healthy and could cause injury.”

Another posted: “You’re too young for training, it will restrain your height, you will not be that tall if you keep training.”

A third wrote: “You're too young to do that thing. Just enjoy life as a kid.”

Others were quick to shut down the critics by pointing out that two people were standing either side of him helping to lift the weights.

One user wrote: “You're all dumb. They ain't plastic and his bones won't be damaged. There is a person either side, check the mirror.”

Another commented: “Aw bless, you can see the guys lifting it for him at the side.”

The post comes days after Victoria was blasted for giving Cruz “fizz” during “happy hour” at their Los Angeles home.

Fans were quick to accuse the mother-of-four of allowing her children to drink alcohol, despite the fact she made it clear they were drinking apple juice, after she shared a picture of her son clinking wine glasses with a friend.
