The Panthers acquired the 24-year-old Morrison Friday in a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Vinnie Hinostroza.

Morrison started the season in the American Hockey League with the Rockford IceHogs and had three goals and five points in six games. He also played three games in the ECHL for the Indy Fuel, picking up a goal and an assist. The former Prince George Cougar joined the ‘Hawks in October in a trade from the Los Angeles Kings for defenceman Olli Maata.

In his pro career, Morrison has played 56 AHL games (13-12-25) and 20 ECHL games (7-14-21). He was the Rangers’ fourth-round pick (113th overall) in the 2015 NHL draft.

In 334 WHL games with the Cougars, Vancouver Giants and Lethbridge Hurricanes, Morrison collected 112 goals and 262 points. He led the Hurricanes in scoring in the 2018 playoffs with 16 goals and 37 points in 16 games.

Hinostroza, 27, started his pro career with the Blackhawks, who drafted him in sixth-round in 2012. He was part of the Marian Hossa trade to the Phoenix Coyotes in 2018. He signed as a free agent with Florida in the off-season last fall. In 255 NHL games, Hinostroza had 34 goals, 66 assists and 100 points.
