Allegheny Co. Adding New COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics In Hill District And Ross Twp.
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Allegheny County is expanding its efforts to get shots into arms, but many people seeking the COVID-19 vaccine say it's still a challenge to find appointments.
People continued to roll up their sleeves Monday morning at the Petersen Event Center on Pitt's campus in Oakland.
"It feels good to know that we're finally getting it," Larry Peters, from Gibsonia, said.
Allegheny County has expanded its efforts to now include people ages 50-64 in Phase 1A, in addition to those 65 and older.
"It's been a little challenging. I've been trying for two weeks. I think it's getting better," Dave Nicola, from Venetia, said.
"By the time we get a message on the cellphone, we get to the computer and they were all filled up," Peters said.
To try and up their chances, Peters registered for shots at several locations.
"UPMC, Castle Shannon, out by the Mario Lemieux Complex, and then we got this one," he said before getting his shot in Oakland Monday.
This week, the county will add two more sites for shots.
Ross Township Community Center and the Central Baptist Church on Wylie Avenue in the Hill District will now open their doors to people as well. The goal is to get the vaccine into more communities.
Allegheny County says people who don't have internet access can book appointments using the 211 phone line.
