New Jersey homeowners are accustomed to seeing their property tax bills go up and up. The statewide average bill is much the same, reaching new heights each year.

The average property Garden State property tax bill rose $159 to $9,112 in 2020.

But there are exceptions. In more than 11% of New Jersey’s towns, cities and boroughs, the average tax bill actually dropped last year, by as little as $1 to as much as $1,072.
