The Montreal Canadiens have named Martin Lapointe director of amateur scouting and signed him to a three-year contract extension. Lapointe will maintain his current role as director of player personnel duties.

His new contract begins on July 1.

Lapointe, 47, joined the Canadiens in 2012 as director of player development but has scouting experience from his time with the Chicago Blackhawks before that. He was promoted to director of player personnel in 2017.

The Montreal native played 16-years in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators and Blackhawks, winning two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings in 1997 and '98.

Lapointe replaces Shane Churla as director of amateur scouting after Churla was hired by the Florida Panthers in November.
