New Jersey Devils vs. New York Islanders: RECAP, score, stats, chat (1/16/18)

NEW YORK -- Taylor Hall, Keith Kinkaid, Nico Hischier and the New Jersey Devils will aim to end their six-game losing streak and pick up two points in the tight Metropolitan Division race when they visit John Tavares and the New York Islanders at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Barclays Center.

Kinkaid will start in place of goalie Cory Schneider, who will miss Tuesday's game due to illness. The Devils recalled Ken Appleby from Binghamton to serve as the backup goalie, and they optioned defenseman Steven Santini to the AHL to make room on the roster.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Damon Severson scored twice 1:26 apart in New Jersey's three-goal second period, and the Devils ended a six-game skid.

Kyle Palmieri and Taylor Hall also scored for New Jersey, which was 0-3-3 since beating Detroit at home on Dec. 27. Keith Kinkaid, getting the start after Cory Schneider was a late scratch due to illness, stopped 25 shots.

Anders Lee scored and Jaroslav Halak made 38 saves as the Islanders snapped a three-game winning streak that started with a 5-4 shootout victory over the Devils here on Jan. 7.

New Jersey trailed less than two minutes in but got four straight goals starting with Palmieri's score late in the first period.

More to know: The Devils will aim to end their season-high six game losing streak, where they are 0-3-3. The Islanders enter riding a three-game winning streak, which started with a 5-4 shootout win over the Devils at the Barclays Center on Jan. 7.

The Devils have never won at the Barclays Center, going winless in their five games there since the start of the 2015-16 season. Kinkaid, a Long Island native, is 0-3-2 in six career appearance against the Islanders.
